STATEHOUSE - State Representative Dick Hamm (R-Richmond) recently presented Pastor H. Lynn Seagraves the Sagamore of the Wabash Award at the Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond. The award, issued by Governor Mike Pence, is one of Indiana’s highest honors and is presented to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state.

“It was a privilege to present this award to a Hoosier whose servitude has impacted the lives of so many in Richmond,” Rep. Hamm said. “Lynn’s enduring commitment to his faith and community, in spite of tremendous health hurdles, exemplifies the quality of character deserving of this award.”

Seagraves has been a resident of the Richmond community for the past 27 years. His tenure as pastor with the Freedom Missionary Baptist Church is marked by countless trips to the hospital to visit Hoosiers in need and led a prison ministry at the Pendleton Penitentiary, to name a few. He continues to play an active role in the community while battling Stage Four colon cancer.

Dating back to the mid-1940s, the Sagamore Award was created by Governor Ralph Gates. The award is the highest honor that the governor can bestow and is presented to Hoosiers who have rendered distinguished service to the state, contributing greatly to Indiana’s rich heritage.
