As communities work to rebuild after facing severe storm damage last month, several new resources are available at the state and federal levels for affected families and businesses.
Below is a summary of federal and state resources available to storm victims.
Reminder, homeowners are urged to call 2-1-1 or visit the Indiana 211 website to report any storm damage and get help with assessments.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is authorized to provide up to $5,000 in emergency aid grants for eligible residents impacted by the storms. Eligible items include certain home repairs, essential furnishings, essential appliances, essential tools, debris removal, medical devices and essential transportation. Click here to apply.
The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority is providing temporary housing grants to help eligible displaced Hoosiers transition from emergency shelters into hotels, apartments and other temporary accommodations. Click here to apply and learn more.
Hoosiers can contact the Indiana Department of Insurance Consumer Services whose team is available to talk to residents and provide guidance on insurance issues, navigating claims and next steps for uninsured losses. Click here to apply and learn more.
Hoosier's can apply for FEMA's Individual Assistance program, which can offer financial relief for home repair, rental assistance or property damage.
Residents in the following counties may be eligible for this federal assistance: Carroll, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Porter, Pulaski, Randolph, Rush, Tipton, Union and Wayne counties.
Units of government with damage to public infrastructure or facilities from a natural disaster can apply for up to $1 million through Recovery Advance Program for Infrastructure Damage (RAPID), an initiative from the Indiana Bond Bank. FEMA will reimburse Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, LaPorte, Lake, Madison, Porter, Tipton and Wayne County local communities for debris removal in recovery. This funding will cover 75% of eligible debris removals costs in those 11 counties. Communities interested in this program should email debris@erassist.com.
