Note to the Press – State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton), chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement today regarding the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) voucher funding announcement:
STATEHOUSE (April 14, 2026) – "Child care has remained a priority, and we've continued to look for opportunities to add funding for child care even during a very difficult budget cycle. Hardworking Hoosier families drive our economy, and they need access to safe and affordable child care. This additional funding will help more Hoosiers balance family obligations with work and find reliable care. I look forward to reviewing this proposal at the next State Budget Committee meeting."
During the 2026 legislative session, the General Assembly passed Senate Enrolled Act 4, allowing the state to augment the existing $300 million Financial Responsibility and Opportunity Growth (FROG) Fund for the CCDF program. The legislature also passed House Enrolled Act 1177 to expand the state's employer child care tax credit, encouraging more employers to offer child care options to employees.
According to the most recent state data, capacity at regulated child care facilities has increased over the past year, with capacity currently at 175,073 as of March 2026. This is an increase of 1,322 since March 2025, when capacity was 173,751.
