Note to the press: Please include the following statement from State Rep. Jake Teshka (R-South Bend) in your coverage of the combined $111 million investment by the state and Lilly Endowment to support early literacy development for Hoosier students:

STATEHOUSE (Aug. 22, 2022) – "Reading comprehension is essential to a student's overall academic success, and serves as the foundation of all learning. With this historic investment, we can get Hoosier students back on track as we are seeing declines in reading test scores, and meet the goal of having 95 percent of Hoosier students pass IREAD by 2027. The statewide strategy, funded through a partnership between Indiana and the Lilly Endowment, will help build stronger foundational reading skills that young Hoosiers need. By deploying instructional coaches to schools, offering stipends to teachers who participate in professional development focused on the Science of Reading, providing targeted support for students who need the most help in improving their reading skills, and creating a literacy center focused on Science of Reading strategies, we will undoubtedly better prepare young Hoosiers for future success."
