Note to the Press: Please include the following statements from Morgan County legislators in your coverage of Indiana lawmakers on Tuesday voting to override the governor's veto of House Enrolled Act 1041, which protects the integrity of girls' sports. House Enrolled Act 1041 ensures biological males do not compete in K-12 girls' sports. The vote came as part of a one-day technical corrections session, where lawmakers can take up any vetoes and fix technical errors in laws passed during the prior session. Indiana will join at least 16 other states that have similar laws on the books protecting female sports:

STATEHOUSE (May 24, 2022) – "Participation in sports teaches our children so many valuable skills like work ethic and fair play. Indiana's K-12 girl athletes should be able to compete without fear of losing opportunities to biological males, and I voted to override this veto to continue those protections," said State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville).

"Ensuring equal opportunity for Hoosier K-12 female athletes is the intent of this legislation. Girls deserve to play, compete and win on a level playing field," said State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle).

"Our state has made tremendous progress in providing equal opportunities to both girls and boys in K-12 sports. Concerns about biological males dominating on girls' sports teams across the country have been in the national spotlight, and something I've heard from many parents. This legislation reinforces the integrity of our sports programs for female athletes," said State Rep. John Young (R-Franklin).
