Note to the Press – State Rep. Stephen Bartels (R-Eckerty) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Eric Holcomb's decision to deploy the Indiana National Guard to support the ongoing border security mission in Texas. Following the recent direct request from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Holcomb announced he will send 50 Hoosier guardsmen to help the Texas National Guard during a 10-month deployment:
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 9, 2024) – "The U.S. southern border continues to be overrun by illegal immigrants and criminals bringing deadly drugs like fentanyl into our country. This is a serious issue that affects us all, and I'm pleased the governor is joining Texas and other states' efforts to address this national security issue. The Indiana National Guard will courageously represent us, and I wish them godspeed in this essential mission."
