Everyone knows that one neighbor who is always going out of their way to help others, boosting our communities and exemplifying Hoosier hospitality.
One of these selfless community members is Frank Hayes, a Jefferson County native who has spent years helping some of Indiana's most vulnerable children in their time of need. Indiana recently recognized his efforts with a Golden Hoosier Award.
This award, established in 2008, honors older Hoosiers who go above and beyond to help others. It is the highest honor the state bestows on its seniors.
Hayes supports The Children's Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana, a nonprofit helping child abuse victims. Hayes makes donations, helps restock the children's resource room at the center and actively participates in annual fundraising campaigns.
Hayes' unwavering support for these young Hoosiers is a truly selfless act. Because of his efforts to help support those in crisis, many children in need have felt cared for when they need it most. I'm grateful to Hayes for his dedication to helping these Hoosiers and The Children's Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana.
Hayes is 1 of 17 Hoosiers most recently honored with a Golden Hoosier Award. To be eligible, nominees must be an Indiana resident, age 65 or older, and have volunteered in their community for the past three years.
