First and foremost, I want to thank each and every one of you who helped make this year’s election a success. In order for the election process to run smoothly, it takes thousands of wonderful volunteers working behind the scenes. I want to thank each and every one of you who gave up your time to make this year such a success.
Our agenda for 2015 was recently released, and with that, our goals for making Indiana the best place in the nation to live, work and raise a family. Though a large part of session will be dedicated to crafting a balanced budget, we are also focusing on increasing public safety as well as reworking the funding formula for education.
We will work to increase fairness by decreasing the disparity in funding. Overall, we are looking at initiatives to equalize that funding and make it fair to all.
As a life-long educator, I know how much hard work and dedication teachers put into their students’ education. Whether that means staying late to make lesson plans, attending workshops over the summer or digging into their pockets to purchase classroom supplies, teachers have always focused on the betterment of their students’ education.
We will focus on getting education dollars directly into the classroom and there is no simpler way to do that than to address the school supplies that teachers are purchasing in their public school classroom on their own tab. I am pleased that we will work to provide a state tax credit for public school teachers who purchase supplies for their classroom.
We have the fifth highest infant mortality rate in the nation. This is an alarming concern that we must address. It is our duty to protect those who cannot protect themselves. We will work on increasing awareness and educating those who can help prevent infant mortality.
Indiana is a great place to live, but we can always find ways to improve. I am proud to stand with House Republicans and our agenda. Please do not hesitate to contact me at email@example.com or by phone at (317) 232-9816. I look forward to helping in any way I can.
