STATEHOUSE (March 29, 2016) — State Rep. Dave Wolkins (R-Warsaw) congratulates two Wabash County families for their designation as Hoosier Homestead award recipients.

The following list includes the farms that received Hoosier Homestead awards:

  • The Schuler Family Farm, has been in operation since 1911 and received the centennial award; and
  • The Smith Family Farm, has been in operation since 1849 and received the sesquicentennial award.

“Contributing more than $44 billion and supporting 190,000 jobs, Indiana’s agriculture industry is a critical part of our economy,” Wolkins said. “Owning a farm for more than a century is a historic investment in Hoosier agriculture and truly worthy of this recognition.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.

Two awards ceremonies are held each year, in the spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of farmers across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit www.in.gov/isda/2337.htm.
