STATEHOUSE (March 11, 2022) – State Reps. Brad Barrett (R-Richmond) and Tom Saunders (R-Lewisville) recently welcomed local students to the Statehouse where they participated in the Indiana House Page Program.
According to Barrett, the students toured offices of all branches of government in the Statehouse, helped staff with daily responsibilities, and joined him and Saunders on the House floor to witness the legislative process.
"Paging is an immersive program for young Hoosiers to get involved in state government," Barrett said. "These students from Wayne County learned a lot during their visit, and I hope others can take a trip to the Statehouse next year during the legislative session. It's a rewarding experience for both students and members."
These area students served as pages during the 2022 legislative session:
"Learning about the legislative process firsthand is a unique educational opportunity that's beneficial to all students," Saunders said. "I always enjoy seeing local kids like Jayden take part in the page program and interact with other young Hoosiers from around the state. It's a fun way to learn and gain a better understanding of how bills become law."
Saunders said students between the ages of 13 and 18 should consider participating during the 2023 session.
