STATEHOUSE (Oct. 21, 2024) – The Oct. 31 deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is fast approaching, according to area lawmakers.

State Rep. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown) said this full-time, spring semester internship is Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and can gain academic credit through their college or university.

"Our internship program helps students gain real-world experience and I love seeing young Hoosiers from southern Indiana working at the Statehouse," Engleman said. "Interns are a valuable resource for legislators and staff, and their hard work and help is always appreciated."

State Rep. Jim Lucas (R-Seymour) said interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to complete the application before Oct. 31.

"Having work experience on your resume can make a huge difference when applying for jobs," Lucas said. "Interning at the Statehouse is a great way for students to learn, get paid and skill up for their future careers."

State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) said Indiana House internships include free parking, career and professional development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

"The Statehouse is a great place for young Hoosiers to kick-start their careers," May said. "These internships are an opportunity for students to work in a fast-paced, professional environment and learn more about how our state government works – making it a great program for all majors."

The program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
