STATEHOUSE (Oct. 14, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Washington County legislators.
These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"Internships at the House of Representatives offer invaluable real-world exposure," Engleman said. "Participants are provided with a practical understanding of the legislative process and it is a great way to kickstart one's career."
State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.
"Our internship program has many benefits including experience in a legislative session," May said. "Applicants have the chance to meet and work alongside state leaders on a variety of topics and issue areas."
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Jim Lucas (R-Seymour) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"Every career starts with getting your foot in the door, and this is a great step toward both the public and private sectors," Lucas said. "While at the Statehouse, interns will get hands-on experience and learn lifelong skills working alongside legislators, staff and state agencies."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
