Washburne: Gibson County farm receives distinguished award
STATEHOUSE (March 28, 2016) — State Rep. Tom Washburne (R-Evansville) congratulates the Steiner family from Gibson County for their designation as a Hoosier Homestead award recipient for 100 years of family farm ownership.
“Indiana’s agriculture industry is a critical part of our economy, contributing more than $44 billion and supporting 190,000 jobs,” Washburne said. “Owning a farm for more than a century is a significant accomplishment and truly worthy of this recognition.”
The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. The Steiner Farm has been in operation since 1904.
Two awards ceremonies are held each year, in the spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of farmers across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit www.in.gov/isda/2337.htm.
