STATEHOUSE (Dec. 16, 2024) – State Reps. Tim O'Brien (R-Evansville) and Cindy Ledbetter (R-Newburgh) recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.

House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members' two-year terms. O'Brien was appointed as chair of the House Ways and Means K-12 Subcommittee. He will also serve as a member of the House Government and Regulatory Reform Committee, and House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee.

"K-12 education makes up a large portion of our budget every biennium," O'Brien said. "As we head into a budget session, we will take a dive deep into school funding and explore the best ways to financially support each child's education responsibly."

Ledbetter was appointed as a member of the House Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee, the House Insurance Committee and the House Public Health Committee. Ledbetter said committees are responsible for vetting bills, including hearing public testimony and considering amendments.

"As a nurse practitioner, I look forward to using my experience in the health care industry to help alleviate some of its challenges, such as affordability and access to care," Ledbetter said. "I look forward to representing our district in these committees at the Statehouse this session."

House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 for the first day of the 2025 legislative session. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
