STATEHOUSE (Aug. 18, 2022) – Longstanding Wabash County family farms recently received Hoosier Homestead awards for being in operation for 100 years or more, according to State Rep. Craig Snow (R-Wabash) and State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington).
The Beauchamp and Ulrey Farm, in operation since 1872, and the Winkler Farm, in operation since 1845, both received a Hoosier Homestead Sesquicentennial Award.
"The agriculture industry is very important to Wabash County, providing jobs and quality goods, while enriching our heritage," said Snow, a member of the House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee. "For more than 150 years, these local farming operations withstood the test of time. This is a remarkable accomplishment, and I wish these families continued success for many more years to come."
These farm families were among more than 100 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
"Through the years, Hoosier farms have elevated Indiana as a national leader in agriculture," Zay said. "It is families like these who have been consistent producers for our state and nation, and I am thankful to represent them."
Farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. Since its inception in 1976, more than 5,800 farms received the designation as Hoosier Homesteads.
