STATEHOUSE (Aug. 18, 2025) – Area farms were recently honored by the state with Hoosier Homestead awards, according to local lawmakers.
"Agriculture plays such an important role in our state's history and economy," said State Rep. Lorissa Sweet (R-Wabash), a member of the House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee. "These families truly embrace the hard work and dedication it takes to run a farm every single day, and I'm glad they're part of our community."
Hoosier Homestead awards honor farms owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150 and 200 years with centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.
"Farm families make Indiana a top contributor in agriculture year in and year out," said State Rep. Craig Snow (R-Warsaw). "I always appreciate seeing Hoosiers like this be recognized for the perseverance they've demonstrated over many years."
The Blocher Farm, in operation since 1921, received a centennial award, and the Wilcox Farm, in operation since 1913, received a centennial award.
"Agriculture is the backbone of Indiana's economic success," said State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington). "I appreciate the hardworking Hoosier farm families who have spent years feeding our communities, caring for our land and preserving our agricultural history."
These farm families were among 95 awardees recently honored during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair.Hoosier Homestead ceremonies are conducted every spring and summer. Since establishing the program in 1976, Indiana has recognized more than 6,000 farms for their economic and cultural impact to the state.
