STATEHOUSE (March 7, 2025) – Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program awarded Vigo County $749,799 in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to Vigo County legislators.

"Maintaining and improving our roads is critical to the safety and success of our local counties and cities," said State Rep. Tim Yocum (R-Clinton). "These grants provide strong foundations for making lasting improvements that benefit all Hoosiers."

The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program provides local communities funding for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements and other projects. This year, 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants.

"Strong infrastructure is the foundation of strong communities," said State Rep. Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville). "These grants will help improve the roads Hoosiers rely on daily, making travel safer and supporting local businesses and residents."

Indiana was recently ranked as the best state in the nation for overall road conditions by Consumer Affairs, noting our low rate of traffic fatalities and quality of roads.

State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) said to qualify for funding, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The state requires 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or less. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.

"These grants provide an opportunity for our local governments to address critical infrastructure needs," Heaton said. "Whether it's repaving roads or improving bridges, this investment will strengthen our communities and better serve Hoosiers."
