STATEHOUSE (March 16, 2022) – Artwork by a local artist will soon be displayed at the Statehouse, according to State Rep. Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo).

Myndie Everling of Kokomo was selected to have her artwork decorate the Statehouse as part of Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch's and Indiana State Treasurer Kelly Mitchell's annual Hoosier Women Artists initiative. This year, 44 pieces of art were chosen out of more than 200 entries.

"It's inspiring to see the incredible art that women across Indiana have created," VanNatter said. "The Hoosier Women Artists event at that Statehouse is a brilliant showcase of the diverse and creative talents of Hoosiers. I am honored to take part in the celebration of artists like Myndie."

Everling and other artists were honored at a Statehouse ceremony on Thursday, March 3 as a part of Women's History Month. Everling's piece, "Rhythm," will be displayed in Crouch's office.

Everling said her piece was inspired by her husband's recovery after a life-changing accident. She describes the brown splattered watercolor paper as the fog her family was in following the accident, the pink background as the chaos during doctor's appointments and surgeries, and the guitar and hands as hope for the future as he clings to the things he loves most – music and family.

"It is an honor to be included in this great group of artists," Everling said. "I am amazed every day at what artists are able to do with their individual abilities."

"Rhythm" is a multimedia piece. Everling used pieces of torn and burnt watercolor paper glued to a charred piece of wood to depict a guitar held by two hands. According to Everling, her goal was to use line, color, value and contrast to create a feeling of movement and rhythm.

"I hope that when people see 'Rhythm' they see that anything can be done with willpower and love," Everling said.
