STATEHOUSE (Oct. 10, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Tippecanoe County legislators.
These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Matt Commons (R-Williamsport) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"From participating in legislative meetings to interacting on the House floor with legislators and staff, interns are fully engaged in session," Commons said. "I encourage any student who is interested in government, politics and communications to apply today."
State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.
"The experience students earn through an internship at the Statehouse is unlike any other," Genda said. "From sitting in on committee meetings to assisting constituents and providing session updates for the public, students are immersed in the legislative process."
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
“Statehouse internships give students the chance to connect with professionals across many fields and experience state government up close," VanNatter said. "With the application deadline coming up soon, I encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity and apply.”
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
