STATEHOUSE (Sept. 20, 2017) – Local communities will receive state matching grants to improve roads and bridges, according to State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton).
More than $150 million was awarded to Indiana cities, towns and counties through the Community Crossings grant program, which is now in its second year. The grants are available through the Indiana Department of Transportation as a result of legislation supported by Thompson in 2016.
“A critical part of our long-term and sustainable road funding plan, the Community Crossings program provides local governments with the additional funds they need to complete their road and bridge projects,” Thompson said. “With more than $5.5 million going to communities in Boone and Hendricks counties, area residents can expect to start seeing noticeable improvements to our local infrastructure.”
Boone County will receive $436,820 and Hendricks County will receive $670,000. In addition, 14 local communities were awarded grants.
Projects eligible for funding through Community Crossings include road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements, small structure replacements, guardrail replacements and signs.
