STATEHOUSE (Dec. 10, 2020) – State Rep. Jake Teshka (R-South Bend) was recently appointed to serve as vice chair of the House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee and as a member of the House Education Committee.
"Small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and right now many of them need support as they navigate this ongoing pandemic," Teshka said. "To ensure that Hoosier entrepreneurs can succeed, we need to continue improving our business environment and making Indiana the best place for job creators to call home."
Teshka will also serve on the House Education Committee, which he says plays a key role in crafting policies affecting Indiana's students, teachers and families. K-12 education spending makes up over half of the state's $34 billion biennial budget.
"Students deserve to learn in a safe environment where they can connect with all the resources they need to understand their curriculum," Teshka said. "This means looking into new tools to ensure our teachers can continue to offer the highest quality of education possible in these unprecedented times."
Teshka's committee appointments come after he was elected in November to represent House District 7 in the Indiana General Assembly. He said House standing committees will meet throughout the legislative session, which is scheduled to kick off on Jan. 4.
