SOUTH BEND (Oct. 11, 2022) – State Rep. Jake Teshka (R-South Bend) recently hosted a House District 7 listening tour to meet and gather input from constituents, public safety officials and local employers in the South Bend area.
Teshka toured the Thomas N. Frederick Juvenile Justice Center, where young offenders are housed and connected to community services in an effort to keep communities safe and curb recidivism. He also visited the Dismas House of Indiana where he volunteered in high school. The Dismas House hosts men and women released from incarceration who are provided support services to assist in their transition back into society.
"Meeting with our local public safety officers really gave me some great insight into the difficult tasks they complete everyday on the job, and I'm thankful for the work they do," Teshka said. "Touring the Juvenile Justice Center and visiting the Dismas House helped shine a light on what's being done to help offenders during and after incarceration."
Teshka also made a stop at the University of Notre Dame, and helped celebrate the Morris Performing Arts Center's 100-year anniversary and its recent renovations.
"Our community offers so much, with top-rated universities, a thriving arts community, and passionate Hoosiers working hard to make St. Joseph County a better place for all," Teshka said. "Meeting so many community members, learning about their backgrounds and hearing about their vision for our future helps me best represent our area and meet our needs. As we head into the next legislative session, which begins in January, it's great to hear about the issues important to constituents and our community."
