STATEHOUSE (Nov. 29, 2016) — State Rep. Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville) will serve as chair of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Higher Education and as president of POWER, the Indiana women’s caucus.

“I’m looking forward new responsibilities this session,” Sullivan said. “I’ve been preparing for the higher education committee leadership role by attending conferences and reviewing data on how Indiana and other states have been funding our higher education institutions. I have also been visiting with the leaders of Indiana’s universities and colleges to listen to their suggestions. Using this information, I hope to build on our state’s successes as we move forward. ”

The Political Organization for Women’s Education and Representation (POWER) Caucus is a forum for women legislators interested in improving the quality of life for women and all citizens of Indiana.

Sullivan said she is passionate about expanding women’s voice in state government.

“Women legislators account for 19 percent of the legislative branch of government in Indiana, while 52 percent of Indiana’s population is female,” Sullivan said. “POWER plays a vital role in empowering Hoosier women to work together in a bipartisan environment. We also award scholarships to nontraditional female college students, like working mothers.”

The group is going to launch a health fair during the upcoming session, which starts in January.
