STATEHOUSE (June 20, 2018) — State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) was recently selected to chair the Interim Study Committee on Courts and the Judiciary and the Code Revision Commission.
Steuerwald said in the upcoming months, the Interim Study Committee on Courts and the Judiciary will examine all requests for new courts or changes in jurisdiction of existing courts, the adequacy of the statewide computer system used by the Department of Child Services and other issues relating to DCS. The Code Revision Commission is tasked with preparing one or more technical corrections bills to resolve conflicts in statutes and other assigned responsibilities.
“With population shifts and the rise of crime in various segments of the state, there will always be changes to the judicial system,” Steuerwald said. “The time we spend in these meetings helps us to better understand the changing needs of our courts and whether policy changes are needed.”
In addition, Steuerwald will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Corrections and Criminal Code and the Judicial Technology Oversight Committee.
Steuerwald said interim study committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas. Members of the public are welcomed to attend and testify.
