STATEHOUSE (March 22, 2016) – Gov. Mike Pence signed legislation authored by State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) that will enforce stricter punishments for drug dealing in Indiana.

“We must acknowledge the drug epidemic in our state and take action to ensure drug dealers are held accountable,” Steuerwald said. “It’s imperative we track these criminals and make sure they know a conviction of dealing will be accompanied by an appropriate amount of time to be served.”

House Enrolled Act 1235 ensures that those convicted of repeated, drug dealing felony offenses may not receive suspended sentences if the offense involves meth or heroin and the person has a prior conviction for dealing either cocaine, heroin or meth.

Rep. Steuerwald (R-Avon) represents portions Hendricks County.
