STATEHOUSE -- “I am extremely concerned to learn of yet another programming error within the Department of Revenue (DOR) in remitting local option income taxes to our counties. I do fully affirm the immediate and stern responses of the Office of Management and Budget directed by Adam Horst to immediately issue checks amounting to millions of dollars owed to House District 74 counties, removal of the top three DOR managers, and to institute an independent audit of DOR.
“It is because of Indiana’s strong fiscal position that this situation can be rectified without impacting other agencies. State government has challenged local governments to “live within their means”. It is an egregious error when funds collected on behalf of local units of government are not delivered to them in full. I look forward to the independent audit and will support legislation and policy changes that ensure our local communities can have complete confidence in our state’s fiscal management system.”
