STATEHOUSE – “I fully support both Gov. Daniels and leadership in the General Assembly in their call for an independent audit of the Department of Revenue. We have seen over the past several years as taxpayers across Indiana struggled through a recession that every little bit counts as we try to live within our means. Local units of government are no exception to that rule, and they deserve the money that they are owed.
“I’m pleased that the counties will be receiving these funds quickly. However, Hoosier taxpayers entrust the government to closely look over their funds and two major mistakes in the same year does not instill the level of confidence in DOR’s processes that is expected. The situation is completely unacceptable and I whole-heartedly affirm the decision to remove the top three DOR managers from their positions.
“I entirely agree that a bipartisan and transparent audit should be completed as quickly as possible; we owe that to the taxpayers. I support any improvements that can be made and hope that with those improvements we can avoid any similar future mistakes.”
