STATEHOUSE (Nov. 3, 2023) – Significant state funding is in route to Morgan County communities to help complete road and bridge projects, according to State Reps. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) and Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville).

State funding is available for local projects through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, including road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements and other items. In total, over 180 towns, cities and counties will receive more than $91 million in state matching grants.

"Investing in our infrastructure is one of the most important things we can do to keep Hoosiers safe and maintain Indiana's economic viability," Mayfield said. "For years now, this program has facilitated much-needed updates to roads and bridges, making our state one of the best nationwide in this regard."

Area grant recipients include Mooresville ($998,771) and Morgantown ($248,920).

"It's great to see this partnership between local and state governments result in safer and more reliable infrastructure across Indiana," Haggard said. "Community Crossings is a prime example of working together to keep our state thriving."

To qualify for the competitive grant, smaller municipalities provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities provide a 50 percent match. State law requires 50 percent of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $1.2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
