STATEHOUSE (Dec. 13, 2024) – State Reps. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) and Alan Morrison (R-Brazil) recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.
House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members' two-year terms. Heaton was reappointed as chair of the House Ways and Means Committee's Higher Education Subcommittee and will serve as a member of the House Financial Institutions Committee.
"Crafting a responsible budget that addresses our state's priorities remains one of my top responsibilities," Heaton said. "These committees provide an opportunity to tackle big issues and ensure Indiana remains a great place to work and live."
Morrison was reappointed as chair of the House Environmental Affairs Committee. He will also serve as a member of the House Elections and Apportionment Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee. Morrison said committees are responsible for vetting bills, including hearing public testimony and considering amendments.
"Our state's natural resources are invaluable, and I'm excited to continue leading efforts to protect them while balancing economic growth," Morrison said. "I look forward to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure Indiana's future remains bright."
House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 for the first day of the 2025 legislative session. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
