STATEHOUSE (Nov. 20, 2020) – Several local arts and cultural organizations received more than $101,000 in support grants to help recover COVID-19 related expenses, according to State Reps. Shane Lindauer (R-Jasper) and Stephen Bartels (R-Eckerty).
Nearly $10 million in Arts, Cultural and Destination Marketing Organization Support Grants were made available statewide thanks to federal CARES Act funding, and provided through a partnership between the Indiana Destination Development Corp. and the Indiana Arts Commission. Lindauer said the grants will help preserve and sustain the events, arts and cultural organizations that contribute to the character and health of a community.
"Many Hoosiers and out-of-state visitors travel to local iconic Indiana festivals like the Jasper Strassenfest," Lindauer said. "It takes a lot of volunteers, time and financial contributions to make events like this happen for Dubois County and other communities. Hopefully this grant will help offset unexpected expenses and help groups get back on their feet."
According to Bartels, some of the eligible expenses include salaries, facility operational costs and canceled event production costs.
"Local art and cultural organizations are great sources for tourism and boosting the local economy," Bartels said. "Southern Indiana is an ideal destination, and a lot of people come this way because of art programs and community events. I'm thankful this money was set aside to help our hospitality and cultural industries bounce back."
