STATEHOUSE (Oct. 31, 2024) – State Reps. Stephen Bartels (R-Eckerty) and Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown) along with other local lawmakers recently presented a Sagamore of the Wabash to Dr. John Click, a longtime dentist and community volunteer from Floyd County.
Over the past 38 years, Click has operated his family dental practice in Milltown and is the only dentist who performs services and pro bono treatment in Crawford County. Click also volunteered with the Freed from Within ministry providing dental care for recently released offenders in Harrison County.
"Dr. Click is a prime example of how one person can make an extraordinary impact in their community," Engleman said. "His efforts to provide care for multiple surrounding counties, especially to those who are most in need, are invaluable. That's why he's so deserving of the state's highest honor, the Sagamore of the Wabash."
Click also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1998 to 2006 where he received the Meritorious Service Medal, which is awarded to members of the armed forces who distinguish themselves through achievement or meritorious service to the United States.
"Dr. Click has lived an outstanding life of service from the military to supporting and caring for our local residents through his dental practice," Bartels said. "He goes above and beyond to help those in our community including those who may not otherwise be able to access dental services. He deserves the state's highest honor, and I am glad we could present the Sagamore of the Wabash to him."
Click currently volunteers in Floyd County with animal control services, American Cancer Society and as the local fire board president.
Dating back to the 1940s, the Sagamore of the Wabash award was created by former Gov. Ralph Gates. It is the highest honor the governor can bestow and is presented to distinguished Hoosiers who have made significant contributions to the state of Indiana.
