Note to the Press: State Rep. John Jacob (R-Indianapolis) made the following statement in response to the announcement Texas and Mississippi have ended their statewide mask mandates:
STATEHOUSE (March 3, 2021) – "Yesterday, the respective governors of Texas and Mississippi announced their states would be fully opening within the next few days, with no restrictions nor mask mandates. Texas and Mississippi are the two most recent states that have joined the ranks of over a dozen other states that have already ended their mask mandates.
"Hoosiers have been in lockdown mode for nearly a year, and the time is now to trust them to make their own decisions related to COVID-19. I am calling upon Governor Holcomb to follow the caring example of Texas and Mississippi and end the statewide mask mandate in Indiana, on top of ending our state of emergency. Based upon many interactions from Hoosier citizens across our great state, I firmly believe the same should be done in Indiana.
"Our children have suffered. Small businesses have suffered. The elderly have suffered. We have all suffered. Now is the time to reopen the state and move forward. Government’s response to COVID-19 has destroyed the very social, cultural, familial, relational and economic fabric of our society.
"Listen to the words of Founding Father and second president John Adams, 'Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker! But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.' Hoosiers’ liberty has been grossly infringed upon the past 11 months, and the time to end the unconstitutional mandates is now.
"I'm humbly imploring Governor Holcomb to do what is right in the eyes of God and in the eyes of millions of Hoosiers. It is always right to do right and always wrong to do wrong. It is the right thing to do, to immediately and completely end the state of emergency and mask mandate in Indiana."
