STATEHOUSE (Aug. 16, 2024) – The Bridges-Royer Farm in Putnam County recently received a Hoosier Homestead Bicentennial Award for being in operation since 1823, according to State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) and State Sen. John B. Crane (R-Avon).
"The Hoosier Homestead awards honor the multi-generational dedication of families who have tirelessly worked their farms for over 100 years," Baird said. "Their perseverance and hard work have not only sustained their family legacies but have also been vital to Indiana's agricultural achievements and have served as the backbone of our communities. This recognition is a fitting tribute to their invaluable contributions."
"Congratulations to the Bridges-Royer Farm on this amazing accomplishment," Crane said. "Locally owned and operated farms are an important aspect of the Hoosier economy, and it is farms like the Bridges-Royer that foster growth in the agricultural sector.”
Farms owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150 and 200 years can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
This farm family was among 104 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their dedication to the state's agriculture industry. Hoosier Homestead ceremonies are conducted every spring and summer. The state has honored more than 6,000 farms since the award was established in 1976.
