STATEHOUSE (Aug. 16, 2024) – The Romine Farm in Newton County recently received a Hoosier Homestead Sesquicentennial Award for being in operation since 1874, according to State Rep. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) and State Sen. Rick Niemeyer (R-Lowell).

"Indiana is a leading producer in agriculture and it is thanks to longstanding farm families like this that make it possible," Aylesworth said. "With these awards, we celebrate the longevity of so many Hoosier farms and the dedication they have to building on their legacies."

Farms owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150 and 200 years can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.

"I am always pleased to see Hoosier farm families receive the recognition they deserve for their dedication," Niemeyer said. "The Romine farm has more than earned this award, and I congratulate the family on all of their hard work."

This farm family is among 104 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their dedication to the state's agriculture industry. Hoosier Homestead ceremonies are conducted every spring and summer. The state has honored more than 6,000 farms since the award was established in 1976.

Visit in.gov/isda for more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program and to nominate a farm. Nominations for the March 2025 ceremony are due by Nov. 1.
