STATEHOUSE (Aug. 19, 2024) – The Grindle Farm in Grant County recently received Hoosier Homestead Centennial and Sesquicentennial awards for being in operation since 1852, according to State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) and State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington).
“It takes determination, hard work, and dedication to keep farms in operation for numerous decades,” Goss-Reaves said. “I'm honored to recognize this local farm and other longstanding farm families that contribute greatly to our state’s economic and agricultural success."
Farms owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150 and 200 years can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
"Hoosier farmers contribute greatly to Indiana's economy and its success," Zay said. "I'm proud to see the Grindle Farm and family receive this honor, and I thank them for all they do to support our great state's agricultural production."
This family farm was among 104 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their dedication to the state's agriculture industry. Hoosier Homestead ceremonies are conducted every spring and summer. The state has honored more than 6,000 farms since the award was established in 1976.
