Rick Niemeyer (R-Lowell) (far left) in Lake Village on March 12, 2026, to survey damage recently caused by the severe weather. Storms and tornadoes hit northwest Indiana on Tuesday, killing two residents in Lake Village, injuring others, destroying or damaging hundreds of structures and leaving over 10,000 without power. Recently, Gov. Braun issued an Executive Order declaring a disaster emergency in Jasper, Newton and Starke counties a result of the severe weather and tornadic activity. Emergency response teams continue to clean up damage and NIPSCO is working to restore power outages. Call 2-1-1 or visit their website to report damages and find local assistance.
