STATEHOUSE (Sept. 5, 2023) – Starke County lawmakers are seeking interns to join them at the Statehouse during the 2024 legislative session.

According to State Rep. Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie), House interns will be paid $900 bi-weekly as they work in downtown Indianapolis during session, which starts in January and concludes mid-March.

"Interning with the Indiana House of Representatives is a great way to learn more about the legislative session and how bills become laws," Pressel said. "From researching policies and tracking bills to effectively communicating with constituents, students will gain professional experience they can take with them into the workforce."

State Rep. Kendell Culp (R-Rensselaer) said House internships are open to college students and recent graduates of all majors.

"No matter your major, those who are preparing to launch their careers are invited to apply and join our team," Culp said. "There are valuable professional skills that House interns develop, like communication, organization and prioritization, and I hope students and recent grads from our area apply and take advantage of the opportunity."

Paid, spring-semester intern positions are full time, Monday through Friday, and include free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student's college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

Students can apply for internships in a variety of departments related to their field of study, including legislative operations, policy, and communications and media relations.

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
