STATEHOUSE (July 9, 2024) – St. Joseph County legislators recently received appointments to serve on interim study committees, which will meet throughout the summer and fall to explore policy issues and work together to identify solutions.
Legislators will hear testimony from the public, various experts and stakeholders as they work on bill recommendations ahead of the budget session in January.
State Rep. Dale DeVon (R-Granger) will serve as chair of the Interim Study Committee on Child Services. He will also serve as a member of the Commission on Improving the Status of Children in Indiana.
"Child safety in our state is a top priority, and we're always looking at strategies to protect our most vulnerable," DeVon said. "Reviewing child fatality reports is just one way we can determine where we should focus our efforts to ensure we're directing resources where they're needed most."
State Rep. Jake Teshka (R-North Liberty) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Education and the Native American Indian Affairs Commission.
"Nearly half of the state budget goes toward K-12 education in our state and it's critical for us to ensure taxpayer dollars are helping to deliver the best educational outcomes for Hoosier students," Teshka said. "This interim, legislators will seek how we can improve school attendance and improve learning environments for student success."
State Rep. Tim Wesco (R-Osceola) will serve as chair of the Interim Study Committee on Elections. He will also serve on the County Redistricting Commission.
