STATEHOUSE (Nov. 2, 2023) – As the Nov. 7 election approaches, area lawmakers encourage Hoosier voters to submit election-related questions or report issues using the state's new text hotline.
State Rep. Tim Wesco (R-Osceola), chair of the House Elections and Apportionment Committee, said by texting 'IN’ to 45995, Hoosiers will receive a secure link to a website where they can ask questions, request information, submit a complaint or report a problem directly to the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office. Election staff will receive and review questions or concerns, and respond directly to voters by phone, email or text.
"With Election Day right around the corner, this hotline is great for Hoosiers who may need to contact the Secretary of State's Office if they have any questions or problems," Wesco said. "This is another resource to help keep our elections accessible and secure."
According to State Rep. Dale DeVon (R-Granger), voters can use the hotline for a variety of reasons, including reporting something suspicious at a polling site, receiving information about voting locations and hours, and asking questions about election security through the hotline. The service is free, but individual users' text messaging and data rates may apply.
"This new tool is great for voters who have questions about the upcoming election and want to make a plan to cast their ballot," DeVon said. "Hoosiers shouldn't hesitate to reach out and ask for help or report an issue."
"With the upcoming election, Hoosiers can now reach out to the Secretary of State's Office more easily when they need election information," said State Rep. Jake Teshka (R-North Liberty). "Be sure to get out and vote on Election Day, and if you have questions be sure to text the election hotline or check out the online voter portal at IndianaVoters.com."
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7, and polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hoosiers can also check their voting status, find early vote and Election Day polling locations, and view a sample ballot at IndianaVoters.com.
