STATEHOUSE (Sept. 21, 2026) – St. Joseph County legislators are encouraging local students to apply for the Indiana House Republican Internship Program for the 2027 legislative session.
State Rep. Dale DeVon (R-Granger) said this paid, full-time internship is open to college students, recent graduates and students in law or graduate school from January through April.
"Interns are an important part of the legislative session," DeVon said. "Students are able to meet and connect with state lawmakers and actively participate in the lawmaking process at the Statehouse."
State Rep. Jake Teshka (R-North Liberty) said interns work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full-time Monday through Friday during the legislative session and gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"As a former intern at the Statehouse, I can confidently say it shaped my career and passion for public service," Teshka said. "This is truly a one-of-a-kind experience where students can play a meaningful role in their state government."
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Tim Wesco (R-Osceola) said this spring semester internship gives interested students opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"The House internship program is more than a resume builder, it's an experience that cultivates the next generation of state leaders," Wesco said. "I hope to see students in our community consider this opportunity and learn how they can get involved in the issues and decisions that affect Indiana."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
