STATEHOUSE (Oct. 6, 2023) – Local legislators encourage Hoosier voters to register or check their voting status by the Oct. 10 deadline.
"Voting is one of the most important ways Hoosiers can make their voices heard," said State Rep. Alex Zimmerman (R-North Vernon). "I encourage all eligible Hoosiers to take the time to register or ensure their registration is up to date so they can participate in the upcoming election."
State Rep. Jennifer Meltzer (R-Shelbyville) said Hoosiers can visit IndianaVoters.com and quickly access a link to register to vote or check their voter registration record. The state's website also provides voters with local polling locations and who's on their ballot.
"By visiting the state's website, Hoosiers looking to make their vote count this November can find multiple helpful tools," Meltzer said. "Whether registering for the first time or making sure your information is updated, IndianaVoters.com is an easy-to-use resource."
"The deadline to register to vote will be here before you know it and that's why having a plan to vote is essential," said State Rep. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown). "Be prepared by going online and checking your voting options and see who's on your ballot."
Hoosiers can also register to vote by visiting a county clerk's office and a directory is available online at in.gov/courts.
"There are so many resources available for any Hoosier who has questions on the voting process," said State Rep. Randy Lyness (R-West Harrison). "We know that life can get busy, so having a plan to vote on or before Election Day helps ensure you cast your ballot."
State Rep. Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville) said to register, Indiana residents must be at least 18 years old on or before the upcoming election, have a valid Indiana Driver's License or Indiana State Identification Card, be a citizen of the United States, have lived in the same precinct for at least 30 days before the next election, and not currently imprisoned after being convicted of a crime.
"In Indiana, our election processes are secure, and voters have many opportunities to cast their ballot leading up to the election or on Nov. 7," Patterson said. "I encourage Hoosiers to exercise their right to vote and make sure their voices are heard."
"Participating in elections is one of the core civic duties for every American," said State Rep. Zach Payne (R-Charlestown). "I encourage voters to go online and confirm their registration status, and make sure they get to the polls on or before election day."
The voter registration deadline is Oct. 10. Early in-person voting starts Oct. 11. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7, and polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
