STATEHOUSE (Dec. 3, 2025) – State Rep. Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso) recently attended the Global Nuclear Energy Economic Summit in West Lafayette. The event focused on understanding the financial and developmental impact nuclear technology such as Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMRs) could have on Indiana's energy supply.

Soliday says because of legislation he authored passed last session, Indiana is the first state to offer nuclear manufacturing tax credits, establishing a lead in developing nuclear energy. Purdue University currently houses the only nuclear reactor in Indiana, used for training and teaching to inform SMR development.  First American Nuclear has announced a $4 billion investment plan to relocate their corporate headquarters and bring over 5,000 high paying jobs to Indiana.

"Our state has always been proactively looking for ways to increase energy production to meet demands without burdening ratepayers," Soliday said. "We know SMRs are the future of energy and will make continued efforts to encourage their growth while acting in the best interest of Hoosiers."

The Global Nuclear Energy Economic Summit, co-hosted by the state and Purdue University's College of Engineering with support from the Institute of Energy Innovation, is designed to inform energy leaders on the benefits and challenges of nuclear energy while exploring ways Indiana can invest and diversify its industry. Nuclear engineers, researchers and economic strategists directed panels and discussions on topics including nuclear solutions for AI energy needs and building investor confidence in nuclear deployment.
