STATEHOUSE (Dec. 16, 2021) – Communities across all 17 regions in Indiana will receive $500 million as part of a new, innovative state grant aimed at increasing quality of life and attracting top talent, according to State Rep. Craig Snow (R-Warsaw).
On Tuesday, Gov. Eric Holcomb announced $50 million will go to counties in the Northeast, including LaGrange, Steuben, Noble, Kosciusko, Whitley, Allen, Wabash, Huntington, Wells and Adams. The communities, led by the Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority, submitted a regional development plan as part of a competitive grant process through the Indiana Regional Economic Acceleration and Development or READI initiative.
During the 2021 legislative session, Snow supported making a record investment in READI in order to encourage communities to partner and create a plan for the future.
"Our area is a manufacturing hub for the state and making investments in local communities will help develop and retain the workforce needed to keep business booming," Snow said. "This aggressive plan is vital to ensuring Northeast Indiana remains competitive in the growing global economy, and I'm excited to see these investments go to work for our region."
Regional development plans across the state included housing, trails, broadband, childcare and wellness initiatives, workforce development programs, and telling Indiana’s story to the world. Snow said the plans enumerated a nearly 10:1 capitalization leverage ratio from private and public sources as compared to the state investment.
