STATEHOUSE (Sept. 21, 2017) – Local communities will receive state matching grants to improve roads and bridges, according to State Rep. Hal Slager (R-Schererville).
More than $150 million was awarded to Indiana cities, towns and counties through the Community Crossings grant program, which is now in the second year. The grants are available through the Indiana Department of Transportation as a result of legislation supported by Slager in 2016.
“With these grants, communities in our area will be able to make some much-needed improvements to our roads and bridges,” Slager said. “Having a strong and sustainable infrastructure is necessary to maintain Indiana’s economy and promote growth.”
As part of the program, Lake County will receive more than $696,700. In addition, 18 local communities within Lake County were awarded grants, totaling more than $9.5 million:

Projects eligible for funding through Community Crossings include road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements, small structure replacements, guardrail replacements and signs.
