STATEHOUSE (Jan. 30, 2017) – The House of Representatives voted 95 to 3 today in support of State Rep. Hal Slager’s (R-Schererville) legislative proposal that would give the state examiner a mechanism to deal with recurring infractions during the auditing process.
“The State Board of Accounts audits state, county and municipal entities,” Slager said. “If recurring infractions are found during multiple audits, this legislation would give due process to those that have been found to be in violation when the infractions themselves may not necessarily warrant the case being turned over to the prosecutor.”
Slager said there have been instances of the same issue being cited in multiple years. This policy would provide the state examiner with a new tool to correct this kind of behavior.
Slager’s bill will now go on to the Senate for further consideration. This bill can be followed at the Indiana government website at iga.in.gov.
