STATEHOUSE (Dec. 13, 2016) — The deadline to apply for the Next Generation Teacher Scholarship, paying $7,500 per year for students pursuing a career in education, is Dec. 31, according to State Rep. Hal Slager (R-Schererville).
Slager supported the creation of this scholarship to help incentivize top-performing students to pursue a career teaching in Hoosier classrooms.
“Investing in the next generation of teachers will help keep the best and brightest minds in Indiana classrooms,” Slager said. “This scholarship will help pay for some of the costs of college for students who commit to teaching in Indiana after graduation.”
The scholarship is available to 200 high-achieving high school and college students each year who either graduate in the top 20 percent of their class or earn a score in the top 20thpercentile on the SAT or ACT. While in college, students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and complete at least 30 credit hours per year to continue receiving the grant.
Eligible students must be nominated by a teacher and submit their nomination form to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. Students can visit www.LearnMoreIndiana.org/nextteacher for information and to submit an application before the deadline on Dec. 31.
