STATEHOUSE (April 16, 2025) – Legislation authored by State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) focused on updating and modernizing dental code in Indiana was approved by the Senate.
To help Indiana maintain progress in dental care, House Enrolled Act 1031 includes several provisions that address the practice of dentistry and aims to enhance accessibility of dental services for Hoosiers.
"By bringing this bill forward, Indiana is prioritizing the importance of dentistry and oral health," Goss-Reaves said. "We are making significant strides to assist dental professionals throughout our state and ensure they have the tools and support needed to serve Hoosiers."
Additionally, the legislation addresses an issue brought to me by the IN Dept. of Corrections. Oftentimes a single dentist is responsible for providing care to multiple correctional facility sites. This bill will allow for those dentists to remotely supervise dental assistants in performing radiographs to then send those images to the dentist to determine next steps for care. This will help alleviate the strain on dentists who may not be readily available to provide services at multiple facilities at once.”
House Enrolled Act 1031 passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support and now heads to the governor for consideration as a new law. To learn more and watch session and committee meetings, visit iga.in.gov.
