“Many traffic signals cannot detect motorcycles or bicycles, causing frustration and potential danger for the driver and for other motorists on the road,” said Rep Karickhoff. “Indiana needs to join the other 14 states that have passed this legislation, making the roadways safer for all.” HB 1080 authorizes the operator of a motorcycle, motor scooter or bicycle approaching an intersection controlled by a stoplight to continue through the intersection on a steady red signal as if it is a four way stop after they’ve come to a complete stop and waited at least two minutes. The American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) supports this legislation that will help operators of motorcycles, motorized bicycles and motor scooters when trying to proceed at a stoplight with no traffic signal detection. After being signed by the leaders of the House and Senate, HB 1080 will go to the governor’s office to be signed into law. -30-
