(STATEHOUSE) Mar. 12, 2009 - The House today passed a resolution, authored by Reps. Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso) and Shelli VanDenburgh (D-Crown Point), honoring former Rep. James Charles Conlon for his many contributions to his community and the state of Indiana.
Mr. Conlon, a lifelong resident of Crown Point, served his country in the United States Navy. After retiring from the Navy as a lieutenant commander, he became active in politics. James served on the Crown Point City Council, the planning commission, the board of works and served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1990 to 1996; during his service in the House, he was deputy speaker pro tempore.
Besides an active life in politics, Mr. Conlon also was very involved with his community and Northwest Indiana. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a dedicated teacher for many years.
"It's a privilege to honor former Rep. James Conlon for his contributions to his community and Northwest Indiana," said Rep. Soliday. "He was an exceptional leader who deeply valued his state and community."
"It is a pleasure to be part of this resolution honoring former Rep. James Conlon, whose life of outstanding dedication to the state and Northwest Indiana is sincerely appreciated by all those he served," said Rep. VanDenburgh.
"Jim was an outstanding legislator and a model servant," said House Republican Leader Brian Bosma (R- Indianapolis). "He was a great representative for his community and will be sorely missed."
