STATEHOUSE (Dec. 13, 2024) – State Reps. Elizabeth Rowray (R-Yorktown) and J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.
House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members' two-year terms. Rowray will serve as a member of the House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development. She was also reappointed to serve as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and the House Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee.
"Supporting Indiana’s families, businesses, and economic growth is at the heart of my legislative priorities," said Rowray. "I’m excited to collaborate with my colleagues to craft policies that create jobs, strengthen families, and ensure a strong future for our state."
Prescott will serve as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Elections and Apportionment Committee, and the House Judiciary Committee. Prescott said committees are responsible for vetting bills, including hearing public testimony and considering amendments.
"I'm honored to serve on these important committees and look forward to working with my colleagues to address the critical issues facing our state," Prescott said. "Committee work is the foundation of the legislative process, and I'm eager to work on policies that will benefit Indiana."
House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 for the first day of the 2025 legislative session. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
